Better Futures wants London to be a beacon of cleantech, low carbon and resource efficient industry. And we want to reward carbon cutting businesses.

That’s why the Mayor is driving a programme offering free expert advice and up to £7,000 of support to take your business to the next level.

Support includes:

    • Investment readiness and growth support with innovation advisers.
    • Access to new supply chains and markets, including new international markets.
    • Innovation and commercialisation of research & development.
    • Innovation vouchers for academic collaboration projects.
    • Business Bootcamp and Accelerator programme.
    • Paid short term internships.
    • Events, workshops and masterclasses.
    • Grants
    • Corporate engagement – Helping facilitate access to West London corporates that can provide “testbeds” for CleanTech
    • Workspace and culture offer support

To be eligible for support your business must have:

    • a product/ service in the CleanTech industry
    • a London office
    • 1-249 employees
    • a turnover of under £50m

In 2021. as a natural next step in the development of the Better Futures programme, we announced an expansion, funded by the Mayor’s Green New Deal Fund.

This expansion programme, Better Futures+, allows increased activity and diversification of support to ensure that London’s transition to net zero advances despite the pandemic.  Our ‘NET ZERO HEROES’ are pioneering how to achieve net zero and helped showcase our national efforts at COP26 in November 2021.

One of the world's leading technical universities

It has been home to 14 Nobel Prize winners and has a long history of technical innovation, starting with the creation of the first organic chemical dyes and more recently the development of robotic surgery. At Imperial the Better Futures led by the Centre for Climate Change Innovation (CCI) at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment. The CCCI was created to support the development of a new economy, based on low-carbon and resilient businesses. It has so far supported the creation of 95 new Cleantech businesses, helping them to raise $1/4bn in funds, as well as working with established businesses, helping them to build a low-carbon future. OPDC

A whole new centre and community for West London

They are using the investment in rail infrastructure projects High Speed 2 (HS2) and the Elizabeth Line (formally known as Crossrail) to create new opportunities for people in the area. The Corporation was officially launched on 1 April 2015 by the Mayor of London. OPDC is the Local Planning Authority and regeneration agency for the 650 hectare site. Europe's leading community for scaling sustainable businesses

They provide flexible workspaces and prototyping workshops for startups developing new technology in sustainability. The organisation hosts events and community activities to help sustainable startups develop their products and services, grow their market, raise funding and build teams. Sustainable Workspaces (assisted by Sustainable Ventures) provides tailored innovation and business support to London based low-carbon SMEs. To date, a wide range of support has been provided to SMEs including support with developing business plans, fundraising strategies, investment readiness, product development and scaling and access to markets, among others.
