Allotme

AllotMe was born out of a need to address some of the world’s greatest challenges.

A 2022 academic study found that Global food-miles account for nearly 20% of total food-systems emissions… or 3 GigaTonnes of C02e.  In practical terms: onions bought from a UK supermarket travel on average 4,500 miles before you even take them home!

The UK imports nearly half of its fresh produce each year, valued at around £48B. This cost has increased by 58% in the last 14 years.  Both Brexit, and the Covid-19 pandemic have served to highlight the extent to which the UK’s food system remains incredibly unstable.  Whilst there are approx. 300,000 allotments across the UK, land set aside for plots has declined by 70% since their peak with waiting lists as long as 40 years in some parts.

In tandem, an average of 1 in 8 people nationally (1 in 5 in London) have no access to a private garden.  Between April 2021 and Sept 2022 even the lowest-priced supermarket food products increased in cost by approximately 17%.  Fresh food price inflation hit 14.3% in November 2022, leaving many households forced to decide whether to ‘heat or eat’.

At AllotMe, we want to bring the joy of growing your own food to as many people as possible.  However, availability of growing spaces is a real challenge.  AllotMe is a ‘marketplace’ to match supply and demand -l ist your space for free and let a local Greenfinger put it to work as a vegetable plot.

From back gardens to community allotments, AllotMe has hundreds of plots available to rent.  We also encourage growing with our catalogue of food growing tutorials, categorised by plant type or by season.

AllotMe’s model can activate any vacant piece of land by creating an urban vegetable plot.
