Biofonic is unearthing new soil insights to accelerate sustainable land management through its below-ground acoustic sensors and AI.
We have engineered a TRL 4-5 acoustic sensor specifically engineering for below-ground usage (inserts and stays in ground for various periods) for continuous monitoring of key factors of soil health, with proof of concept achieved in lab and in agricultural and research plots across UK (species-specific, biodiversity indices, soil structural indicators). We are now advancing our R&D to include pest detection and enhance engineering for optimal sensor deployment for our given machine learning development targets. Our units are currently sub 150 in cost, and our desire is to decrease that further after scaling up manufacturing in order to serve the needs of our agricultural customer base. There are currently no below-ground acoustic sensor devices available commercially that are engineered well for soil (in general) or engineered specifically for a multi-target soil sounding strategy, nor are there any soil-borne acoustic sensors designed to be used in an array of sensors for spatial precision in agricultural contexts.
