E.V.A Biosystems is developing synthetic biological additives to be included within conventional plastics, in order to produce plastics for large scale manufacturing that can sense if they end up in seawater or landfill and then selectively degrade themselves in response. Using synthetic biology to develop new bioplastics for manufacturing, the goal is to tackle plastic pollution while retaining all of the advantages that makes plastic so invaluable.
