FocalSun Ltd

FocalSun has been supported heavily by the EU with a Horizon project and then by Innovate UK and SNAM, a major gas producer in Italy. The original technology goal was to use concentrated solar to produce hydrogen in North Africa and blend into the European gas market using SNAM existing gas network. While developing two pilots production plants in Italy and at Cranfield University in England, the biggest of which is 7m squared, the company developed a technology solution, called H2Top, that can be used to turn a standard solar pv park into a green hydrogen plant. H2Top direct connection architecture between the PV and the electrolyser cuts hydrogen system costs by eliminating the power supply/inverter, reducing CAPEX by 25%.
