Get Rid of it and Donate (GROAD) has been operating since 2017. Our goals are twofold – to alleviate the congestion at landfills of items that are reusable and to support low income families by donating useable personal or household items that would otherwise have been dumped.
GROAD was born out of the founder’s frustration with the excess waste generated by our ‘throw away’ society and the slow pace of change in community attitudes and activities to reduce our negative impact on the environment which directly contributes to global warming. Excess waste sits alongside wide spread poverty across boroughs of London with string echoes of Dickensian society.
GROAD believes that recycling usable goods that would either have been dumped is a practical way of helping families on low income while simultaneously making significant reductions to landfill which is mearing crisis point across London.
We are a young organisation and we are growing, however we need to secure strategic positions to our organisation to help it scale up services, stabilise some areas of delivery and improve the educational / awareness raising aspect of our work.
